Hi Paul! I'm not positive, but I believe intead of the tortoise and the hare, it was the Elephant and the Rabbit. Elephant slow and steady straight line to the desired destination, and the rabbit never gets there because he's running everywhere.

Meaning no offense whatsoever, it is much easier for me to follow the transcript without the mp3. They are identical, and I can take notes without losing my train of thought, and with a notebook open I am less likely to fall asleep.

Does anyone know how to clear an iPod so I can download the guided meditations to it? I'd be grateful for some technical expertise.

Namaste,
Tara

if a blind turtle had to surface in the ocean and slip its head through a floating yoke that is the probability of being born a human with all the causes and conditions in place to study and practice the dharma and reach enlightenment with the point being the rarity and preciousness of our human birth. That was my take. There is a paragraph missing in the transcript.

with kind regards

Christian, that was my understanding as well, but I had trouble with the metaphor. It didn't make a lot of sense to me. So far, I think the trascript is word-for-word with the mp3, but we miss the translation and the conversations between our Teacher and his Translator - in Tibetan. If you enjoy this, I must tell you that FPMT has a Basic Course (homestudy) called "Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds." It is fantastic, contains prayers and retreat materials, even preparation for taking Refuge and Vows. The two go together beautifully. The DM module gives us a chance to talk - and to talk to a Teacher. It's always nice to get two different takes on the same material. And most of the materials and Suggested Additional Readings are available online in mp3 format.

Again, thanks for clarification. I do tend to mix things up. There is a place where the Elephant and Rabbit are compared for speed of reaching enlightenment, as if speed were important. Sorry if I caused confusion.

Ooops, sorry. I don't think it's a requirement. They are listed. I listen to guided meditations, but after a time or two I make it "my own," and just do it.

Paul, Chris, it's nice to meet my class mates. Namaste, to you both.
