• A good understanding of karma, bodhichitta, and the importance of taking and keeping vows according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. 

Steps to Follow

• Download the practice text: Ceremony for Taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts

• Read and study the chapters of Lama Zopa Rinpoche's teachings one-by-one

• Watch the videos excerpts of Lama Zopa Rinpoche's teachings

• When you feel ready to actually take the precepts, choose an appropriate day (such as the full, new moon, or one of the four special days of the Buddha) and take the eight Mahayana precepts 

• Rejoice and dedicate the extraordinary merit
