Please find outlined below some info on forum subscriptions.
Overall Profile Preferences for Forums
You can click on your profile name at the top right of the screen and then on Preferences and then on Forum Preferences to review the following overall options for your profile
Email digest Type: You can select whether to receive an individual email per forum post or a single email per day of all forum posts with just the headers or with the headers and content.
Forum auto-subscribe: this allows you to auto subscribe to an individual forum discussion when you post to it
So those preferences allows you to select your default overall preferences which can then be customized per forum.
Individual Forum Options
Each different forum then allows you to select your settings for the forum at an overall level and then per post.
e.g for the DB discussion forum you can select your overall subscription preferences for the DB forum at https://onlinelearning.fpmt.org/course/view.php?id=34 by clicking on Forums in the Activity box on the left hand side of your screen under the Navigation tab
This open up a forum selection option at https://onlinelearning.fpmt.org/mod/forum/index.php?id=34 which shows if you are tracking posts on the forum and also whether you are subscribed by default to all posts in the forum - you may want to change this to No if you only want to be subscribed to individual discussions of your choice
Individual Forum Posts Subscription Options
Then if you click into the actual DB forum at https://onlinelearning.fpmt.org/mod/forum/view.php?f=84 this will allow you to subscribe or unsubscribe from individual posts e.g. if your default at the previous option was No for Subscription then you will be automatically unsubscribed from all posts but can open an individual post and select Subscribe to subscribe just to that post discussion (or you can click on the little icon at the right of each post from the forum page to change between a dot (unsubscribed to a letter icon (subscribed)
