Thank you for your post on this and i am sorry that you are having difficulties with your selection of text.
I work on a PC and the input box works fine for that but i will get some testing done via a Mac and see if we can do anything to fix this during our next upgrade of the overall CSS and them we use for the software. This update is a project we have planned for 2016 when we update the overall moodle software.
In the meantime i do not know of any solution to this and i hope you can be patient while we test this further and try to see if we can resolve it in the future.
