Hi Cathy

Thanks for your post. Have you had any trouble downloading the mp3 files from other modules or is it just DB Module 5 that you experiencing some difficulties with? Can you give me more details on the nature of the problem - did the files not download at all or did they download but then would not open? From reading you message it sounds like the files might have attempted to open online instead of downloading.

To download the files you generally need to right click on the file and select the option to 'Save File As' or 'Download Link As' etc. I know with some Macs and quicktime that sometimes clicking on the file can cause a problem as it first needs to be downloaded. So can you also let me know if you use a PC or Mac.

One other thing you can try is to download all the audio files for the entire module at once at https://onlinelearning.fpmt.org/mod/folder/view.php?id=2667 and then unzip them locally and see if they will then play.

Thanks

Eamon

Hi Cathy

I do not have access to an Asus tablet and am not familiar with that device and so i do not know how to transfer mp3 files to such as device. However i know for most tablets that often it is necessary to download the files to a computer first and then sync them to the tablet rather than downloading directly to the tablet. However some tablets doe allow you to download files but then they often store them in a Download folder and they need to be moved to a Music folder on the tablet to be played.

So i think it would be good to try and put the files on a computer first if you have one and then try and sync them and if you do not have a computer then some internet searches might help with instructions on how to get mp3 file on the device without a computer or with help from a computer shop.

I am sorry i cannot help more with this but unfortunately we do not have access to all tablets or mobile devices.

Eamon

Actually no problem, happy for it to be a donation as I saw that the adobe need was mentioned, Still would reach a much wider audience if the apple IOS was catered for.

I searched the internet and found a couple of solutions to the mp3 on iPad issue.  The first one is from Apple support, looks pretty straight forward:

Secondly, there is an app that plays mp3's in Apple products:

Hope this helps.

Hi Clay

Thanks for your post on this. In the past, all the content on the Online Learning Center was compatible with mobile devices except for the videos in some courses that required Flash to play (However even then, in terms of playing the videos on your ipad, from research, i know there are some options available for playing flash videos on ipads as outlined at  http://ipad.about.com/od/Productivity-Apps/tp/How-To-Play-Flash-On-The-iPad.htm or http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/ipad/how-get-flash-ipad-3460979/ such as using  Photon Browser etc).

This included the mp3 files which normally played in the browser they were opened in. How since reviewing your posting, i reviewed the OLC courses again and noticed that since we did our major upgrade of the OLC earlier this year, that the file structure now behaves slightly different for the files in that they force download when displayed as a directory listing rather than allowing them to play by default and this is built into the software and not easily changed, without completely redoing the courses and linking to the files individually in the new built in player. For most browsers on computers this is not an issue as it can open a local media player to play the files or use a player built into the browser. Then for most mobile devices it allows you to download files which usually go to a folder called Downloads which can then be browsed with a file utility and moved to the music folder but for ipads and other Apple devices this is more complicated as Apple restrict access to file management.

I reviewed some of the links that Kathleen posted and the ical app sounds interesting that is mentioned in one of her links as it is a fully featured browser that allows downloads of files but i was unable to test that.

So i would encourage you to explore some of the options for managing files with just an ipad as it will normally require some work around due to the limitations placed by Apple on having a full file system available to the user without using Itunes.

I also reviewed the course you are enrolled in and will send you an email with a link to the audio files on a separate Box site which can be opened in Safari and played online, so at least you can access them in that way.

I will now also continue more research on this and assess what further steps we can take to make the courses easier to use with mobile devices for users that do not also have access to a computer.
