Hello, Thank you in advance for any thoughtful responses. And a thank you for the online course.

My question pertains to the suggested mediation where we are encouraged to visualize the people in our life. The people we love, the people we are agitated by, and the people we treat as insignificant and so forth.

We are instructed to visualize them in the room with me when I am meditating.

?. How should I visualize them? 1. As they are also mediating, sitting, eyes closed , in the room with me? Or 2. should I visualize them all looking at me? Whereby I am the center of attention, and I am the only one meditating?,

If it is the first option, should I assume they know I am there?

I find my motivation swings broadly when I am the only one mediating, and they "see me". I do sense broad compassion, and responsibility for everyone's happiness.

When I just see myself as one of many sitting in a room mediating with people who agitate me, but are just there by circumstance, I feel less compassion.

Thank you.

Hi Michael

Thank you for your post in this FAQ and Technical Support Forum. I noted that you are enrolled in the Discovering Buddhism course and can i suggest that you post this question in the Discovering Buddhism discussion forum at https://onlinelearning.fpmt.org/course/view.php?id=34 as this is an active forum for discussing questions related to the Dharma topics studied. None of the elders who monitor the Discovering Buddhism forum will monitor this forum which is mainly for assisting with technical difficulties.

Kind Regards

Eamon

Hi Michael. I don't know if this is very helpful, but I also found that difficult. So I just ignore they are there. I mean, if you see everything as a Mandala or Merit field or Buddhafield, people you know may be there in it, but they don't need to affect you. Its like they are part of the scenery. But I don't interact with people much in real life, so that may be just a reflection of how I see things anyway. Susan
